Financial and back-office services for guitar repair shops

Everything delivered remotely, nationwide. Built specifically for the repair and lutherie business, not adapted from a generic bookkeeping template.

I keep the books for my husband's repair shop, so I already know your vendors, your service mix, and how your state is likely to treat labor versus parts. That is the whole offering: a short list of things done well for one kind of business, rather than a long list done generically.

01

Monthly bookkeeping

Clean, reconciled books every month, categorized in a way that lets you glean meaningful information from your financial data: labor income split by service type, parts income separate from parts cost, consumables where you can see them. You get a clear read on the shop without having to think about it.

  • Monthly reconciliation across every payment platform
  • Income and expense categorization
  • Monthly P&L and balance sheet in plain language
  • Budget vs. actuals reporting add-on
02

Sales tax compliance

An add-on to monthly bookkeeping. Whether repair labor is taxable depends on your state and on whether any parts or consumables went into the job. Florida is my home turf; for other states I research your specific jurisdiction before we touch anything. The Florida rule is covered here in detail.

  • Initial research for your state
  • Labor versus parts tax mapping
  • Invoice and POS setup review
  • Ongoing return filing and remittance
03

Setup & cleanup

Starting from scratch or from a mess, no judgement here! I can't quote a cleanup without taking a peek at things first, a concept I'm sure you're familiar with. It's just like how quoting a repair job is most accurate with the guitar on the bench. So we start with a paid diagnostic: I go through what's really there, tell you what I found, and quote the cleanup. If you decide not to go ahead, you still keep the findings.

  • Paid diagnostic, with documented findings
  • Chart of accounts built for your shop's income streams
  • QuickBooks Online or Wave configuration
  • Bank and credit card connections & reconciliations
04

Training

One-on-one sessions in your own account, working through your real transactions and the workflows that apply to your shop, not a generic tutorial. For shops that would rather do their own books but want them done right.

  • Live sessions over Zoom
  • Recordings included
  • Walkthroughs of your actual workflows

The one thing I never handle

Income tax returns. I am not a CPA and I do not prepare returns. What I do is keep your books clean enough for a seamless hand off to your tax preparer at year end.

Not sure which of these you need?
